Foreign Fruit: A Personal History of the Orange
I wrote a book! It’s called Foreign Fruit and was published by Canongate, Tin House and Penguin Canada in 2025. Foreign Fruit won Scottish Debut Non-Fiction of the Year in the 2025 Saltire Awards, and was called “a stunning, stylish search for origins… superbly reflective, restive and revealing” by the Irish Times, “deeply thoughtful, funny and moving” by the Big Issue and “smart, engrossing… brilliant” by Kirkus. The End: Surviving the World Through Imagined Disasters
I wrote a small book! It’s called The End: Surviving the World Through Imagined Disasters and was published by 404 Ink in 2021 as part of their “Inklings” non-fiction series. The End was shortlisted for the 2022 Kavya Prize and the Big Issue described it as “Beautifully argued and deeply perceptive… It made me think differently about how society and the psyche function, the crowning glory of a very impressive series”.
As an author I have been awarded grants from Creative Scotland and Society of Authors, and was awarded an Ignite Fellowship in 2025 from the Scottish Book Trust.
